The European Union intervenes to prevent conflicts or to deal with emerging or real crises.
The European Union's intervention in this context can take many forms concerning restrictive measures: application of financial sanctions, freezing of assets, etc.
To this end, the European Banking Federation, the European Savings Bank Group, the European Association of Cooperative Banks, the European Association of Public Banks and the European Commission have set up a list of persons, groups and entities. Initially set up by the federations of the credit sector, it is updated by the European Commission.
The European Commission's Foreign Policy Instruments Service (FPI) launched a new web page in 2017. This includes the updated list of financial sanctions. Information is published in different formats.
