Changes in glacier elevation and mass since 1850

The evolution of the mass or elevation of glaciers is a natural and reliable indicator of climate change. Changes that have a direct impact on sea level.

The data, which is available online via the Copernicus program website, provides a chronological list of glacier changes around the globe. This data is an exhaustive record of the variations since 1850.

Accurate information on both glacier elevation and mass changes are drawn from the Fluctuations of Glaciers database of the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS).
