Populist parties across Europe (The PopuList)

The PopuList relies on the most prominent academic literature about populism and political extremism to categorize European national parties as populist, far left, far right, extremist – or a combination of these. The data is collected from 1998 and comprises every party which was able to obtain at least 2% of the votes in at least one national election.

The website is designed for academics and journalists, it is supported by the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research, The Guardian, and the ECPR Standing Group on Extremism and Democracy. It was used for instance by The Guardian for its inquiry on populism in Europe .

The data is accessible directly on browser, but it is also possible and easy to download it. The PopuList also offers some visualizations of its data.
