The Age of MegaFires
Cross-border, data-driven project examining and mapping the phenomenon of wildfires in Europe, their evolution in size and location, and the types of landscapes and protected areas that are the most affected by them.
Methodology
This investigation analysed wildfire data collected by the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), managed by the European Commission within the Copernicus Emergency Management Services. The database covers the April-October fire seasons for the 2015-2025 period, giving not only basic information about fires, but also additional details regarding the type of land and natural vegetation burnt.
