Glocal Climate Change in Europe

The dataset contains the mean temperature variation for European regions and local administrative units from 1961 to 2018.

Methodology

The data analysis is based on data produced by UERRA regional reanalysis for Europe on single levels from 1961 to 2018, which was created by Copernicus and by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The data provides estimated temperatures values at two meters from the ground and it covers a cell grid, with cells 5,5x5,5 km large. For each cell, we worked on the raw data in order to obtain the mean temperature values for the two decades taken into account (1961-1970 e 2009-2018), so as to calculate the value of the occurred temperature variation. Each European municipality was associated with one of the cells, taking into account urban density and the shape of the coastline. You can find additional details in this methodological note. It is worth stressing that the average yearly temperature values are estimates, so they may differ from actual observed values in a given location.
