Financial support in Europe is not enough to counter poverty
Collaborative analysis on minimum-income benefits in Europe, the additional spending power offered to single people, families, and couples with children, and their distance from poverty lines.
Methodology
Starting from the European Commission's MISSOC (Mutual Information System on Social Protection), the dataset combines data on the income benefits of all EU countries. Poverty thresholds are from Eurostat, and correspond to 60% of the median income of each country. For the sake of comparison, three alternative scenarios were considered when performing the calculation: a person living alone, a couple with no children, and a family with two children. Specific caveats apply to all countries, and are discussed in further detail in the methodological section of the investigation.
