Early school leaving is a growing problem in some EU countries

Analysis on the levels of early school leaving across EU countries, with a geographical focus on the rural/urban divide. Based on data collected by Eurostat on education and early leavers between 2014 and 2024, which was later elaborated by Openpolis.

Methodology

This investigation looks at the percentage of individuals aged 18-24 who have completed at most lower secondary education and have not undertaken further education or training in the four weeks preceding the Eurostat survey. This was then combined with countries' and regions' positions on the European targets on early leaving, also accounting for the degree of urbanisation of an area.
