Internet users (World Bank)

Figures published by the World Bank track the increase in the use of internet worldwide.

In 1993, only 0.3 per cent of the world's population used the Internet, compared to more than 48 per cent today – a connection that has been facilitated by mobility. While yesterday we were connected to the network via our computers, we now mostly check our emails or social networks via our smartphones, this new generation of phones with multiple features that can all transmit large volumes of data.

The World Bank publishes figures on internet users; a long series 1960-2018 is available.
