The number of asylum applicants to Spain reach highest level since 2008

At the end of February 9,200 people had pending asylum applications in Spain, according to new data from Eurostat.

That is more than any month since 2008. On average Spain has seen 1,200 asylum applications per month since 2008.

In the whole European Union Germany received the most asylum applications, 14,300 in February, while Hungary received fewest (40 applications).
