The number of asylum applicants from Somalia to the EU is declining

New data from Eurostat shows a declining trend in asylum seekers from Somalia in the European Union. At the end of May 2018 666 citizens from Somalia had pending asylum applications in the EU, compared to for example September 2017 when 1,130 applied for asylum.

On average the European Union has seen 1,348 asylum applications from Somalia per month since 2008.

Among the countries in the European Union Germany received the most asylum applications from Somalia, 454 in May 2018, while Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, and Slovenia received the fewest (0 applications).
