The number of asylum applicants from Iraq to the EU is declining

New data from Eurostat shows a declining trend in asylum seekers from Iraq in the European Union. At the end of May 2018 1,763 citizens from Iraq had pending asylum applications in the EU, compared to for example September 2017 when 5,435 applied for asylum.

On average the European Union has seen 3,589 asylum applications from Iraq per month since 2008.

Among the countries in the European Union Germany received the most asylum applications from Iraq, 996 in May 2018, while Estonia, Lithuania, and Slovenia received the fewest (0 applications).
