Approval rate for asylum applicants from Iran hits record low level in Germany

In the second quarter of 2019 24 percent of the citizens from Iran applying for asylum in Germany got positive decisions. 

In the second quarter of 2019 24 percent of the citizens from Iran applying for asylum in Germany got positive decisions. This is the lowest level in eleven years. A total of 460 applications were approved (out of 1,895).

Since 2008 on average 55 percent of asylum decisions from Iran to Germany have been positive. In the third quarter of 2015 the approval rate peaked at 87 percent.

In the whole European Union 41 percent of applicants from Iran got positive decisions in the second quarter of 2019. The EU average since 2008 is 52 percent.

In total 34,745 asylum decisions were made in Germany in the second quarter of 2019, 43 percent of these were approved.
