Approval rate for asylum applicants from Bangladesh hits lowest level since 2009 in Italy

In the second quarter of 2019 six percent of the citizens from Bangladesh applying for asylum in Italy got positive decisions.

In the second quarter of 2019 six percent of the citizens from Bangladesh applying for asylum in Italy got positive decisions. This is the lowest level in nine years. A total of 145 applications were approved (out of 2,425).

Since 2008 on average 26 percent of asylum decisions from Bangladesh to Italy have been positive. In the fourth quarter of 2012 the approval rate peaked at 88 percent.

In the whole European Union eight percent of applicants from Bangladesh got positive decisions in the second quarter of 2019. The EU average since 2008 is twelve percent.

In total 26,395 asylum decisions were made in Italy in the second quarter of 2019, 19 percent of these were approved.
