The cost of commuting

Tracking the cost: how UK commuter rail costs compare to other European countries

How much does the cost of rail tickets impact on individuals’ monthly spending? The Guardian Data Unit compared the average expenses of UK commuters with similar costs on the continent. What they found out is that the cost of train tickets for UK commuters can sum up to 14% of average worker’s monthly earnings. A percentage which is by far higher than what recorded in France (2.4%), Italy (3.1%) Helsinki and Stockholm (6.5%) and Oslo (4%).
