Transparency of public administrations is a demand and a right of civil society. The Fundación Civio, based in Spain, wants to satisfy this demand through data journalism, through the publication of reports on how those who manage public funds use the resources made available to them and, more generally, through the promotion of transparency in public management.
Its latest study reveals that one in four of those pardoned by the Spanish Government in 2017 had committed corruption-related crimes. Of the 26 pardoned in 2017, 6 were for corruption offences (23 percent of the total). Civio points out an important fact as a criterion for the granting of pardons: it takes into account prevarication as a form of corruption, pointed out as such by judicial authorities, but not by the Government.
