Africapolis

The Africapolis database is the first to map urbanization dynamics in Africa based on data available for 7,500 cities.

Launched at the end of 2018 by the OECD, the Africapolis database is the first to map urbanization dynamics in Africa based on data available for 7,500 cities across the continent.

In particular, it reports that 45 of the most densely populated cities on the continent are located in Egypt or that the Gulf of Guinea has no fewer than 4,000 networked agglomerations. This unique database is highly visual and provides access to profiles for each country showing the share of the urban population, the number of urban areas, the distances between them, etc. A tool also makes it possible to compare two countries. A gold mine to better understand this continent, which is expected to welcome an additional 950 million people by 2050.
