The number of asylum applicants to the European Union is declining

New data from Eurostat shows a declining trend in asylum seekers in the European Union.

At the end of July 28,130 citizens had pending asylum applications in the European Union, compared to for example September 2016 when 123,485 applied for asylum.

On average the European Union has seen 48,077 asylum applications per month since 2008.

Among the countries in the European Union Germany received the most asylum applications , 15,180 in July, while Estonia received fewest (30 applications).
