The number of asylum applicants from Syria to the EU is declining

New data from Eurostat shows a declining trend in asylum seekers from Syria in the European Union. At the end of May 2018 3,882 citizens from Syria had pending asylum applications in the EU, compared to for example July 2017 when 9,770 applied for asylum.

On average the European Union has seen 8,589 asylum applications from Syria per month since 2008.

Among the countries in the European Union Germany received the most asylum applications from Syria, 2,764 in May 2018, while Estonia and Poland received the fewest (0 applications).
