The number of asylum applicants from Nigeria to the EU is declining

New data from Eurostat shows a declining trend in asylum seekers from Nigeria in the European Union. At the end of May 2018 1,245 citizens from Nigeria had pending asylum applications in the EU, compared to for example March 2018 when 2,360 applied for asylum.

On average the European Union has seen 1,697 asylum applications from Nigeria per month since 2008.

Among the countries in the European Union Germany received the most asylum applications from Nigeria, 1,016 in May 2018, while Bulgaria, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, and Slovenia received the fewest (0 applications).
