The Geofabrik’s OpenStreetMap Data Extracts

The Geofabrik’s OpenStreetMap Data Extracts is a server which contains data extracts from OpenStreetMap (a project built by a community of mappers that contribute and maintain data on roads, paths, cafes, train stations and much more, all over the world) which are normally updated every day. The open data download service is offered free of charge by Geofabrik GmbH.

The Geofabrik’s OpenStreetMap Data Extracts files provided on the server do not contain the user names, user IDs and changeset IDs of the OpenStreetMap objects because these fields are assumed to contain personal information about the OpenStreetMap contributors and are therefore subject to data protection regulations in the European Union.

The user can select the continent and then the country of interest from a list, then download datasets containing information about roads in various formats.
